All Things Football: Essential Tips And Tricks

It doesn’t matter how long you have been playing football for. In fact, it doesn’t even matter how tall or wide you are. It doesn’t matter how strong you are or for how many hours you work out each day. The fact is that research is the most effective way to better your game, so read on.

Remember, you don’t need to tackle to have a fun game of football. There are many variations on the game that are just as fun while being a lot safer. Try a game of touch football. Instead of tackling, if the person with the ball is touched by the opposition, then it’s a tackle.

If you want to be a good football player, then you need to constantly work on your agility. Great agility exercises that you can use for regular workouts include jumping rope, jumping over cones and running through tires. If you can, set up yourself a course for each activity for regular use.

Don’t panic! Football can be a little scary when you first try it. People are rushing at you, and quite often they’re bigger than you too. It’s not a comfortable feeling. But with practice, you’ll learn how to be more agile and avoid tackles. You’ll learn how to fake-out those rushing at you. It all becomes much easier. So stay calm and learn all that you can.

A great tip to remember if you’re a runningback or receiver in football is to always make sure you keep the ball close to your body at all times. So many turnovers have occurred because a player wasn’t holding the football firmly enough, and an opposing player just took a swat at it.

Try learning some tricks of the trade by watching professionals play the game. Watch film online and then take it to the practice field for 10 minutes a day. Practice it and learn how to perfect this trick so that when you need it, you have it. Don’t overuse tricks because your opponents will learn from you and figure it out.

Use interval sprint training to really boost your stamina. Sprint for 30 seconds, then rest for 1 minute. Sprint and rest again. Keep repeating this until you can not physically spring anymore that day. Record your total number of sprints for that day, and aim to beat it by one the next day. Most days you won’t, but you will slowly edge that number up.

If you call for a fair catch close to your end zone, you can try to kick a field goal. When you catch a football and call for a fair catch, you have the opportunity to kick a field goal. The player kicks the ball off the ground with a holder’s help. It is like a standard field goal where it’s worth three points. The other thing is that there is no timing during the down.

If you start feeling sick or just “not right”, get off of the football field immediately. Even if it isn’t physical, the fact that you aren’t quite yourself can lead to a serious accident if you aren’t careful. It may mean that you sit out for 10 minutes or more (maybe even the game), but your health is well worth it.

Stretching can improve your speed on the football field. To maximize your athletic potential, you need to be flexible and have a wide range of motion. Over time, stretching will allow your body to become more flexible and with this flexibility comes speed. Have a teammate help you with your stretches to maximize their efficiency.

Play the position that works to your personal strengths. If you strong, fast and good at catching a football thrown from different angles, play safety or wide receiver. If your body is bulky and you have a lot of strength, play defensive or offensive tackle. If your good at kicking the ball with accuracy, you may be the perfect field goal kicker or punter.

A receiver must work to provide a target for their quarterback. The goal is for the ball to be delivered to your midsection. If you are to the quarterback’s right, place your left arm on top of your right arm. Likewise, if the ball is to the left, place the right arm atop of the left arm. This allows you to defend the ball to the best of your ability.

Become a student of the game prior to taking your place on the field. Understand the rules and you will play better. You can learn about football by watching a game on television, picking up a book on the subject or even going and watching your local high school football team play.

Learn how to properly tie your football cleats. Many players sustain ankle injuries because their football cleats are not tied tight enough. A football cleat should fit like a glove to offer the best protection to your feet and ankles. Always pull the laces as tight as possible for added protection.

If you can change direction quickly and without the opposition knowing where you’ll go next, you’ll be a master at football. If the offense doesn’t know you’re headed for them or the ball, or the defense expects you to go right when you go left, you’ll own the game and they’ll come out losers.

Watch and learn from the best. Always keep your eyes open for skills and techniques that you can learn from. When you are watching a football game, watch how the professionals move and learn from them. You can use your powers of observation to learn skills from rivals and team mates on the field.

Obviously, people born with a talent for football will find success easily. For the rest of us, we have to combine perseverance, practice and research together to turn ourselves into a force to be contended with. You’ve done the research, now go out and do what it takes to become great.
